My name is Garrett Durrenberger and I would like to announce my candidacy for the Office of the Lee County Sheriff. I am a dedicated county law enforcement professional and I have devoted my entire adult career to public service. I feel that my knowledge and experience have afforded me the opportunity to place my qualifications before you, for your consideration; to be your next law enforcement leader.
I am 33 years old. I grew up in Lee County and I was raised in a law enforcement family. I attended Giddings ISD schools from Kindergarten until graduation from Giddings High School in 2005. I am married to Stormie Durrenberger, who is employed by the Giddings Independent School District. Stormie has taught at the Giddings Middle School for the last six years. I am a proud stepfather to our son, Haylen Poston; who is four years old and father to our newest addition, Klutch, now 8 months old. My family and I reside in Lincoln, Texas.
Active Member, Sheriffs’ Association of Texas
Vice President, Lee County Sheriff’s Posse
I began my law enforcement career at the age of 19, as a Jailer for the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office in Caldwell. I attended the Capital Area Regional Police Academy in Austin in 2007, where I earned my Basic Texas Peace Officer Certification. I proudly served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for three years under the direction of Sheriff Rodney Meyer. Having started out as a 21 year old Deputy matured me at a very fast pace. I gained a wealth of experience and learned some lessons about the tragic and evil world we live in. I later joined the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in 2011, which I saw as an opportunity for growth in my career. Serving in Fayette County under the direction of Sheriff Keith Korenek has afforded me the opportunities to promote and work in different divisions within the department. I have served as a Patrol Deputy, Undercover Narcotics Investigator and in my current assignment as a Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division. I have assisted with and investigated numerous cases ranging from stolen livestock to homicides, and everything in between. I am very passionate about my job and I believe in victim’s rights. I take pride in working to get justice for the good citizens who are victimized by criminals. I have earned numerous law enforcement certifications throughout my career. More importantly than certificates, I have learned and worked the day-to-day operations in a proactive and community oriented Sheriff’s Office. I have learned that being a good law enforcement leader, means to serve alongside your employees, not from the front or the back. I want to bring my knowledge and abilities back home, because I believe that our citizens deserve the highest quality of law enforcement protection and services.
I chose to begin the campaign process early, not only to help you learn more about me, but to also allow me to learn more about your concerns and expectations of our Lee County law enforcement. I have met with many local citizens and community leaders and I look forward to meeting with many more; to learn about what needs to be addressed in order to work towards improving our public safety in the near future.
I have developed a Five Point Plan, which I will use to guide my management of our Sheriff’s Office. There are many positive changes we can make, to maximize our services with minimal taxpayer costs:
Promote a professional atmosphere throughout the agency.
Train and retain positive employees who are dedicated to public service.
Foster good working relationships with our citizens, other agencies and local officials.
Enhance our protection and services through community policing and proactive approaches.
Maintain a safe county where all citizens may enjoy a high quality of life, without the fear of crime.
